ABOUT THE OWNER & TRAINER AT SHILOH K9 OBEDIENCE TRAINING & BOARDING CENTER, LLC…

My name is David R. Dee, and I am a lover of all animals, especially dogs! I have grown up with dogs in my family since I was five years old. I have known the value of a well trained, obedient dog, and how happy it has made me as an owner of my many different dogs, for over 50 years. It not only makes you and me happy, and our dog(s) happy, when they love to obey us – BUT, it makes every one else around us HAPPY too!

Training my dog to work in the field of K9 Search & Rescue, has made me appreciate the temperament and talents that a dog will exhibit toward humans in helping them in their time of need. Having an obedient, well trained dog is a benefit to the owner who enjoys the companionship of their dog, and your obedient, well trained dog will benefit people all around you, as your dog befriends them!

TRAINING your dog in either basic or advanced practices of OBEDIENCE, whether your dog is still a puppy or an older adult dog, this is my goal for us to pursue together. I have trained dogs of many different breeds. Both pedigreed and mixed-breed dogs have a love for learning. We just have to find out together, as TRAINER, OWNER, and DOG, what motivates your family or working dog to OBEY you and to be a HAPPY DOG, so you can be a HAPPY OWNER!
My personal and professional approach to working with you and your dog will establish the foundation for you to continually build upon, to TRAIN your own dog in the future, so your dog will be an OBEDIENT, HAPPY DOG!

What Qualities Must A Good Dog Trainer Possess?

By David R. Dee

What are some of “the best of the best qualities” that a dog trainer must possess to train you and your dog, so that your dog’s obedience and behavior is qualitatively good to excellent in all kinds of environmental and social settings?

1.)   The dog trainer must love people and dogs.

2.)   The dog trainer must be able to communicate, with words and body language, so that both humans and dogs understand them.

3.)   The dog trainer must be able to read and understand dog behavior, by observing a dog’s body language.

4.)   The dog trainer must be a well-rounded person, intellectually, socially and spiritually. They must be a person who is able to relate to people and dogs of all kinds of backgrounds and potentials.

5.)   The dog trainer must have received a well-rounded education and the experience of interacting with people and dogs. Whether through academic instruction and/or through being mentored by an expert dog trainer and handler!

6.)   The dog trainer must be a patient, persistent person with high but achievable expectations for both the people and the dogs that they are working with in training.

7.)   The dog trainer must be able to fine tune their well thought out training philosophy so as to apply it with training methods that fit each individual dog’s genetic predisposition, the dog’s temperament, and the dog’s prey drive.

8.)   The dog trainer must be consistent and constant with the application of their training methods. The human handler needs to be predictable to the dog, so that the command words and hand signals, along with the corrections and engagements with the dog, are always being experienced by the dog with regularity.

9.)   The dog trainer must be constantly developing themselves educationally and experientially in the art of training dogs and in their understanding of animal behavior as a human being.

10.)   The dog trainer must be faithfully fair and firm with each and every dog while engaging the dog in obedience training, service work, socialization with people and other animals, and in correcting and conditioning a dog to be a well-rounded canine that is a good citizen among both people and other animals.
