This is a "DOG'S TALE" about a little
9 year old Shih Tzu, Mixed Breed, named "BILLY!"
Billy is the little black & white dog,
nosing up to our resident GSD, TROOPER!
Billy came to TRAIN & BOARD with us for 2 weeks.
He had a reputation of living with his same owner for 8 years, and often bit his owner when Billy did not get his own way with life.
Then Billy was moved to an animal shelter where he lived for one year.
He was scheduled to be euthanized, but a caring person brought Billy to us to see what we might be able to do to help him. The good goal was to find a possible new human owner to adopt Billy. This would only happen if they could both learn to have a mutual love and respect for one another, on THE HUMAN'S LEVEL OF CONTROL!
For YEARS, Billy NEVER KNEW what it should be like to be owned by a human who would be patient and persistent to CONTROL him as THE DOG! Letting Billy think and feel himself EQUAL to being HUMAN, ruined Billy's DOG NATURE!
MOST PEOPLE NEVER MEAN TO BE MEAN TO A DOG!
Our Best HUMAN INTENTIONS,
Are Often A DOG'S Worst Enemy!
Many of us as HUMANS never learn to treat a DOG
any better than a DOG knows, (UNTRAINED),
how to treat a HUMAN!
* * *
THINGS THAT BILLY WOULD NOT ALLOW A HUMAN
TO DO WITH HIM OR FOR HIM, INCLUDED:
Putting A Collar or Leash on Billy.
Brushing Billy.
Holding Billy,
Petting Billy.
Walking Billy on a leash.
...and more.
* * *
GUESS What Things BILLY allowed us to "CAUTIOUSLY" do after spending some long days and hours socializing and training him to TRUST & OBEY his human handlers?
BUT -
BILLY had TOO LONG BEEN LEFT
Untrained & Unsocailized!!!
BILLY'S BITING AGGRESSIONS WERE TOO STRONG TO CONTROL, HE had Too Much Time to grow old and set in his ways!
NO ONE took BILLY'S DOG CONTROL away,
to replace it with their HUMAN CONTROL!
Dogs, ALL DOGS, Cannot Be Allowed
to be in CONTROL over Humans!
Billy had to go back to the shelter - and he was euthanized!
THIS IS A "DOG TALE" WITH A VERY UNHAPPY ENDING!
People who loved BILLY, and BILLY who loved people, had to be parted from one another, FOREVER!
THIS DID NOT HAVE TO END THIS WAY!
BUT -
This is the way ALL DOGS will end up,
when and where HUMANS fail to learn
HOW TO TRAIN & SOCAILIZE DOGS
the RIGHT WAY!!!
* * *
THANK YOU BILLY
For Telling Us Your LIFE'S TALE!
May we as HUMANS learn the lesson
from your life, so that the hard way
your life ended does not happen to your other K9 pals!

Survey Question #1
What is your overall view of the Training & Boarding provided for your dog?
The boarding was beyond what I thought existed. To have Billy in a crate less than an hour during the day and be able to walk around David's home, was the best! That he got to live with David's dogs helped him learn manners and satisfied his fondness of hang out with his kind.
It was common for David to email pictures of Billy on his lap, sniffing his big dog Trooper... updating me on the fast progress he was making.
I didn't know what to expect from the training because I'd never participated. Before my eyes, I saw Billy learn the necessary first step of David establishing himself as \"pack leader.\" The rest of Billy's training hinged on that.
Once Billy understood his 19 pounds didn't have to try and aggressively protect himself from threats, he could relax and shed that burden under David's leadership. Gradually he fell into the role of a cooperative dog who could finally drop the aggression. For the first time in Billy's life he had a competent, kind, safe, predictable, human who was his \"alpha male.\" After that, Billy learned more than I thought was possible because it was taught by someone who spoke \"dog!\"
Playing is something I never saw our 9 year old Billy do until the second to last training session. David introduced a tug-type-toy to Billy. Like a kitten, he chased, chewed and pounced on it. After a bit of play, David introduced words until Billy linked them with \"go get it\" and \"bring it back,\" all in about 15 minutes.
Only because Billy felt relaxed and safe could he let his \"puppy\" out to play. Watching this was THE most joyful thing I saw because it was something that could only be released from Billy when he felt his world was OK.
Survey Question #2:
Do you feel that you learned helpful instruction about Training & Handling your dog by using our services?
3 = very helpful
Survey Question #3:
Is your dog better Trained in Obedience and improved Behavior since it came to SHILOH K9 Obedience….LLC?
3 = much better
Comments:
\"If I'm nice to Billy, he will be nice to me,\" is what I told David on our first day. After three sessions and two weeks of boarding/training, I know dogs want and need human guidelines and control.
The Marker Training System David uses is scientifically researched with many years of testing. It's superiority over old ways of inflicting painful correction, shows itself through a dog who is comfortable enough to problem solve in order to find out what the handler is requesting. Once the dog discovers the desired behavior, it's the handler's job to mark that exact second with a word (\"Yes\") followed by a treat. Then the dog learns to respond to a gesture or verbal command because he links it to \"Yes\" and a treat. After some experimentation, if the dog doesn't perform the request, \"Nope\" is said (in neutral non punitive voice), the treat is withheld and we try again.
To further my knowledge of what I learned from David, I am watching videos and reading articles from the Leerburg website, which David recommended. I'm getting better as I daily practice these techniques with the dogs at our Humane Society. My \"\"Yes\"\" and \"treats\" come as I see results.
David's business cards are now in the lobby of our Humane Society and I tell customers and friends about Shiloh K9 Obedience Training. Because of David's offer to speak to the staff at our Humane Society, I am hopeful his techniques will help us with other \"hard to adopt\" dogs.
